The App, formally known as snapchat, was created by students Evan Spielberg, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown five years ago. Now in a world where chatting and sharing photo’s online is no longer new and exciting, snapchat has now been rebranded as ‘snap inc.’ as it proves to stay in the game by integrating online social sharing with the ever growing future of wearable technology. Losing ‘chat’ from the former name makes it evident that these guys have plans, or at least the freedom to take the brand beyond chatting.
Spectacles are the first example of this. A pair of questionably fashionable looking “connected” sunglasses that allow users to film their surroundings and instantly upload their personal movies to their snap profiles, giving freedom and ease of recording hands free POV memories. The snap ‘spectacles’, that have not been given a retail price as of yet, come in three colours and house one of the worlds smallest wireless video cameras into the frames. The new piece of tech connects directly to a user’s social media profile via bluetooth or wi-fi and transfer ‘memories’ into the app in a new circular video format. These films play full screen on any device, in any orientation, and captures the human perspective with a 115 degree field of view.
We will be keeping a close eye on the new site for further announcments.
