Overall the show gave us a great insight into the packaging industry and how it is constantly evolving in new directions. We were inspired by the innovative use of more sustainable materials in the cosmetics sector, in particular wood. Premium brands such as NEOM and BIOXÁN used pale wood in their packaging design and the end result appears natural and authentic. It is always interesting to see how brands use different print finishes to define the identity of their packaging. With foiling, embossing, UV spots and many more, designs can often become overcomplicated when they use a myriad of techniques. The more successful designs were those that utilised one or two different print finishes in a clean and considered way. Finally we were introduced to a new way of demonstrating how different graphics can be applied to a standard perfume bottle using projection mapping.
