Getting creative with a global styling icon. From his appointment as Vidal Sassoon's youngest ever creative director in 1999, to his collaboration with Apple in 2015, Gianni Scumaci's creativity has been recognised worldwide. We were honoured to work with him to develop a brand identity and website that showcased his diverse portfolio and 25 year career, along with his inspiring talent. His personal, expressive approach inspired a hand written marque and organic, multi-layered website design.
From commissioned cuts for David Bailey’s iconic portraits, as well as collaborative pieces with Vogue, i-D, and Valentino, the site contains a diverse mixture of photography and short films which help tell his story.
It was important the website felt both timeless and credible. We mixed high-end touches; such as seamless parallax scrolling and full bleed imagery, together with playful composition and cropping. This contrast between classic and expressive nicely mirrors Gianni’s unique approach to cutting.
Gianni’s cutting style also inspired our creative approach to the logo. Through numerous working sessions, we crafted an elegant marque from handwritten type combined with carefully curated extracts from his signature.
The website was a collaborative piece of work between our 2D, motion and digital team and is a project which is still ongoing. Gianni has recently started to teach an in-depth program that shares his expertise on cutting and technique. We are in the process of working together with him to develop a brand identity and suite of materials for this arm of his business. Check the website soon, GS Education is due to go live from mid-to-late 2016.
